Music Ministries
Cantors
Cantors animate, assist, and support the liturgical assembly in full, active and conscious participation through sung prayer. Cantors proclaim the sung responsorial psalm. This ministry requires ability to sight-read music. A solo quality voice is desirable but not mandatory. Time Commitment: 30 minutes of rehearsal before the liturgy during which the cantor sings, plus time to learn required music. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
Choir - Adult
The principal ministers of music at Mass are the people in the pews, the assembly. The primary role of a choir is to support and encourage them in their full, active, and conscious participation in mass through sung prayer. The choir also provides great music of the past and present to lift our spirits and to make our worship powerful. Our largest choir ministers at the Sunday, 10:30am Liturgy, but smaller choirs lead worship at Saturday vigil and Sunday 8:00am as well. While singing experience and sight-reading skills are helpful, they are not necessary. Time Commitment: Wednesday rehearsals 7:30-9:00pm, and 50 minutes before the liturgy at which that choir ministers. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
Choir - Young People's
Several times a year at the Saturday 5:00pm Liturgy, our young people provide the ministry of music for the community as well as all other liturgical ministries. Bass, Drums and violin accompany the choir. Youth from third grade to 10th grade are involved in this ministry. The group, called "Catholic Kid Band" (CKB) and the young people's liturgy is a great way to involve young people in liturgical ministries. On Christmas Eve, you will see these wonderful young members at their best. Time Commitment: Rehearsals as announced for each liturgy. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument, you are invited to share your talent as a soloist or as an accompanist to the choir. Guitarists, percussionists, string and wind instrumentalists are welcome. Time Commitment: Rehearsals as arranged with director. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
Concert - Scanlon
The Scanlon concert is a yearly fundraiser, usually held in August on the feast of St. Augustine. Proceeds go to support the parish music program in honor of Mr. Michael Scanlon who was St. Augustine’s music director for many years. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
Laudate Liturgy for Peace
Music director, Jim Gilman, gathers the Laudate Chorus bi-yearly from parishes across the diocese to offer their talent on behalf of victims of violence and is accompanied by the music of the Fauré Requiem. The offering is divided among organizations that support victims of violence, or engage in violence prevention work. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
Amal and the Night Visitors
This delightful Christmas opera is a musical story of a poor boy and his mother, visited by the three kings on their way to Bethlehem. Designed for families, it is a delight and great to add to your Christmas traditions. Contact: Jim Gilman, Music Director.
