RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

rcia
rcia

RCIA is for both non-Catholic adults interested in exploring membership in the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, and for those who are baptized in the Catholic Faith but who have not received First Eucharist or Confirmation or both.

The first phase, Inquiry, meets every Sunday in the rectory parlor at 8:00am. It is a no-strings-attached opportunity to ask questions and discover what the Catholic Faith is all about. If and when the participant is ready to take the next step into the Catholic Faith, he or she transitions into to Catechumenate which meets Wednesday evening, 7:00-9:00pm. Participants receive the Sacraments at the Vigil of Easter. Contact: Karen Miller.

Strengthfinder Talent Assessment

The Gallup Strengthfinder Talent Assessment is an online tool that helps our members (or anyone who is interested) discover and give language to their best talents. After they complete the assessment, they meet with a trained coach to discuss their results and to work on improving their ability to use their talents purposefully. Participants purchase the Strenghtfinder book in the parish office for $15.00. The book contains a code that provides access to the assessment, which takes about 30 minutes to complete. In addition to free coaching, there are two classes per year offered for all who have been coached. The three week 101 class is held in the summer. This basic class provides an opportunity to discuss talents with others who are also working to develop their God-given gifts. The 202 class focuses on the relationship between our talents, and our call to ministry. To arrange to buy the book and to meet with a coach, those interested can contact Karen Miller.

Scripture Study

Walt Sears, Director of Adult Formation, leads this study of the Bible and other topics. There are usually 4-6 weekly classes for each study. Whether you are an experienced Bible student or a novice, these studies will keep your interest. Time: Tuesday 7:00-8:30pm or Friday 9:30-11:00am in the parish center (below the gymnasium and behind the cafeteria). Contact Walt to get more information about the current or next bible study.

Bible Study Break
In order to give more room for small faith-sharing groups and Easter we are taking a break from Adult Education Bible study. We plan is to resume Bible study at the first of May with a topical study on the role of the Jewish people and Israel in God’s plan of salvation. Look for announcements in the bulletin or Saint Augustine Notes.

Adult Education Series

Once every month or two, presenters are invited to speak on a topic of interest. Recent lectures and discussions have included such subjects as immigration, stem cell research and family spirituality. Watch the bulletin for these events.

Sunday Parent Group

While children and youths meet for faith formation in the parish center, their parents and other adults meet in the cafeteria for education, formation, and conversation. Topics vary widely, but their purpose is to support parents, not only as they teach their children about faith, but also for their own growth. Visiting parents and other family members are always welcome. Contact: Rebeccah Pelle.

Young Families Rotating Dinner

This group serves the needs of those parents with infants, particularly those who have had their child recently baptized. Dinners are usually on late Sunday afternoons, approximately every six weeks in someone's home. The dinners provide both well-established and new families opportunities to meet others who share the challenges of young family life. Contact: Chris and Beata Engle.
