Small Faith-Sharing Groups
A Small Faith-Sharing Group (SFG) is a group of eight to ten people who meet weekly during Lent (5 weeks) and in the fall (6 weeks) to share their faith. Materials written by Fr. Mark and his SFG core team are created for our Parish, edited with input from group facilitators, and focus on interests and needs expressed by parishioners. In 2009, more than 100 members of the parish participated in an SFG. It is clear from evaluations, participants found the groups so valuable that they made them a regular part of their lives at St. Augustine even beyond the planned seasons of Lent and fall. Members of an SFG find greater depth in their worship, deeper faith in every aspect of their lives, and stronger friendships with other church members that go far beyond the meetings. Our next SFG season begins February 17, Ash Wednesday, with a pot luck dinner at 5:30pm, followed by Ash Wednesday liturgy at 7:00pm. Registration for groups will begin the weekend of January 30 and 31. If you have been a member of a group, welcome back and please put these dates on your calendar. If you have not joined a small group, Lent is a good time to try something new. The staff has seen the powerful impact these groups have made in our worship, and hope to engage many more parishioners in groups during the Lenten season. We encourage you to join a group this Lent. The commitment of time over the five weeks is a small price for the great benefit of sharing your faith with others, and deepening your relationship with God.
"Friday Nights away from Facebook"
Are you a young Catholic new to St. A's looking for a way to meet people? Are you a regular parishioner wanting to expand your social network beyond facebook? If so, please join us for socializing and reflection at our first bi-monthly meeting on Friday, February 19th at 6:00pm at Barclay's (5940 College and Harwood). If you have any questions please contact Jasmine Austin. Hope to see you there!
Movie Night
The parish's next movie night is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20, at 6:15 p.m. when we're scheduled to show "Julie and Julia," a comedy based on two women searching for meaning in their lives. The story is loosely based on the life of Julia Child. It should be a lot of fun. Please contact me to let me know if you're coming and what you'd like bring for the potluck. Walt, 925-963-9341
